aMute

'aMute' is the musical project of Jérôme Deuson, a Belgian artist who resists the usual in favor of discovery. This Belgian post-rock, alternative band, was born 20 years ago and already has 7 albums to their name. The live performances of 'aMute' are a clever blend of improvisations and reinterpretations of their repertoire, with Deuson always at the heart of the group. In 2018, Deuson decided to reorient his relationship with music, thus paving the way for creative freedom. [Last update: 19/11/24]

Some rest

Description

Jérôme Deuson is an unstable musician. Some Rest, his 7th album under the aMute moniker, fully depicts the sonic span he has developed over the last 15 years of his career. The album begets a sense of retained calm, slow roads, with tension bubbling underneath. This journey creates a sense of restlessness, while also comforting the listener with a feeling of sweet, if times subtle tenderness. The 6 tracks are foremost driven by guitars and Thècle Joussaud's charismatic cello, which brings its own touch of filmic drama to the album's nostalgic, and often bucolic palette.

Additionally, a wide variety of instruments, texturized in the style of aMute's abrasive electronics and laptop dementia; all work together, where out of the disquietude, we find an underlying anthem of hope, relief and a spirit of deliverance. aMute is at times described as having a Tim Hecker-style approach, crossed with post-rock or neo-folk, but throughout the life of the project we have seen Deuson float from place to place, wherein his appetite of rewriting himself is balanced by a color and mood that is distinctive across his various albums and aMute's different iterations. For the listener, Some Rest is at once melancholy, highly-visual, introspective, dreamlike, stirring and just downright pretty to listen to. For Deuson himself, it might be a record about making peace with music.
