Boris Gronemberger, a key figure in the Belgian music scene, continues his solo project under the name River Into Lake with his new album Rise & Shine. Created between an isolated caravan in the Ardennes and a house near Brussels, this album extends his refined musical universe, blending orchestral pop and sophisticated electronica.
The album skillfully combines synthesizers, drum machines, guitars, percussion, and wind and string instruments, creating a rich yet controlled sonic palette. From the opening track Be Confident, he asserts his musical signature with complex vocal harmonies and diverse arrangements. Moving between synth-pop, ambient, repetitive rock, and jazzy influences, each track surprises and captivates, as seen in Drawing Cards and Don’t Drive into the Tree, which evolve into true sonic landscapes.
Boris Gronemberger’s music here feels more serene and direct, with a more synthetic production and a stronger vocal presence (Let Me Watch TV). Influences from Robert Wyatt, Talk Talk, Grizzly Bear, and Sufjan Stevens are noticeable, yet the artist brings his own touch, layering acoustic and electronic textures.

Conçu entre une caravane isolée dans les Ardennes et une maison près de Bruxelles, cet opus prolonge son univers musical raffiné, entre pop orchestrale et electronica sophistiquée.
L’album mêle habilement synthétiseurs, boîtes à rythmes, guitares, percussions et instruments à vents et à cordes, créant un foisonnement sonore maîtrisé. Dès Be Confident, il impose sa signature musicale avec des harmonies vocales complexes et des arrangements variés. Entre synth-pop, ambient, rock répétitif et touches jazzy, chaque titre surprend et envoûte, à l’image de Drawing Cards et Don’t Drive into the Tree, qui évoluent en véritables fresques sonores.
Moins bouillonnante que par le passé, la musique de Boris Gronemberger se fait ici plus apaisée et directe, avec une production plus synthétique et une voix plus assumée (Let Me Watch TV).
